Filtration Technology for Large Cast Iron Components

2025-07-09 09:14
With the increasing demand for filtration of large cast iron components in recent years, a new filtration solution for large cast iron components has been developed. Its key points include:
  1. 1.Smaller filter size

The solution uses 150×300mm filter sheets. Each 10PPI filter sheet can filter about 1 ton of ductile iron liquid. For the filtration of ductile iron parts with a pouring weight of more than 1 ton, multiple filter sheets can be placed together to form a large-sized filter sheet as needed. Due to the unique production process of cutting and forming after sintering, the produced filter sheets not only have high dimensional accuracy but also straight edges. When two or more filter sheets are placed together, they can form a seamless joint, preventing the leakage of molten metal from the gap between the two filter sheets, and objectively achieving the filtering effect of a large-sized filter sheet. The number of filter sheets required for each casting can be selected according to the weight of the casting to be filtered, which has high flexibility, thus minimizing the filtration cost. For the needs of different users, more filter sheets with a maximum size within 300mm are also provided, such as 200×200mm, for users to choose from.
  1. 2.Appropriate filter thickness

Filter sheets used for filtering large cast iron components usually have a standard thickness of 32mm. As mentioned earlier, with the increase in the size of the filter sheet, the support spacing of the filter sheet also increases, which puts higher requirements on the strength of the filter sheet. Since the maximum support spacing of the filter sheet is within 300mm, the 32mm thick filter sheet is sufficient to withstand the pressure exerted by the molten metal during pouring under normal circumstances. Compared with the 50mm thick filter sheet, the filtration cost is much lower.
  1. 3.Flexible placement of filter

The large cast iron component filtration solution places the filter sheets on the runner. Large castings usually have a runner of sufficient length for placing the filter sheets, so the placement of the filter sheets is highly flexible. Therefore, there is no need to make fundamental changes to the design of the gating system. While ensuring the filtering effect, the demand for sand box placement space is also low, thereby saving the molding cost. For some circular and cylindrical castings, when the casting process requires the use of arc runners, the solution can be easily realized by splicing trapezoidal filter sheets on the arc runners. Its flexibility and economy are unmatched by other solutions.
This innovative filtration solution for large cast iron components effectively meets the industry's urgent demand for filtration of large cast iron components, provides a strong guarantee for reducing the scrap rate caused by inclusions and improving production efficiency, and is bound to play an important role in the field of large cast iron component casting.
